Product Description Based on the 13th-century epic poem that inspired both Wagner's RING CYCLE and J.R.R. Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS series, DARK KINGDOM: THE DRAGON KING tell the tale of the orphaned prince, Siegfried, who learns his true identity and must regain his lost kingdom and battle a terrible dragon protecting an ancient and evil ring. A huge hit on German television, DARK KINGDOM uses lavish effects and fine acting to conjure a fantastical Nordic world of warriors, dragons, Valkyries, princesses, heroism, and danger. This fantasy film stars Kristanna Loken, Benno Furmann, Alicia Witt, Julian Sands, and Max Von Sydow. Special features include 5 making of featurettes. Average Rating: (1) (0) I own it! It's a must have for Fantasy Fan's!!!

The look's great, the story's great, except for the very lack luster ending.Plus Brun hild is a hotty.I just didn't like the cover to much,or Beno furman as Siegfried. He didn't look the part at all to me,and his acting seemed weak, and over the top some times, but I give him a A for effort,he wasn't horrendous or anything, but to be honest I actually thought Brunhild, and the king made a much better couple.Still this movie's cool, and worth the buy,it just wasn't perfect. Great way of telling the Norse tale! By Sonia Caponera (Caponera1979@Yahoo.com) (0) (0) zVRBmBwOxLamwjFAQ Keep it coming, wrirtes, this is good stuff. By (mQaqxdNlnwnNVQWimNq) (0) (1) Crisp story with Excellent performance The story flowed easily with a crisp character about it. The actors didn't take for granted their roles. It kept your enthusiam up and you'd hate for the commercials to interupt. By baseball912 (Charlottesville, VA, USA) (0) (1) Micro-Mini Epic (?) Based on the ancient German and Norse sagas that inspired Richard Wagner's titanic operatic cycle 'The Ring of the Nibelungs' and echoed through Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' novels, this video version takes Escalade material and shrinks it down to Mini-Cooper size.

Though the sweeping landscapes and brooding castle sets impart some of the epic quality of the original stories and of Wagner's 'Ring', this version is so prosaically and uninterestingly framed and shot that most of the larger-than-life quality is lost. The battle between Siegfried and Fafner, the dragon, is very good, but the rest of the show is a letdown. Take a gander at Fritz Lang's silent version of the epic and you will experience how overwhelming this story of love, death, magic, and treachery can be. Or if you have a spare 15 hours, listen to Wagner's 'Ring' and find yourself swept into another world of incredible music and drama. The only cast members in 'Dark Kingdom' to really get a sense of the epic are Max von Sydow as Siegried's foster father, and Kristanna Loken as the whup-ass warrior queen Brunhild. If you are into tall, blond, beautiful and powerful women, Kristanna will excite you!

By John (Evergreen, Colorado) (0) (3) Did not live up to my expectations! First of all, my apologies for not being familiar with the German/Nordic poems/literary works that this film is based on. Having cut my teeth on fantasy films such as 'Conan the Barbarian,' 'Dragonheart,' 'The 13th Warrior,' 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and most recently an installment 'Chronicles of Narnia,' I was expecting this series to be larger than life for the small screen. Sci-fi channel failed to deliver in my book.

First of all, it was a two parter (I was hoping for a few more one hour episodes); then a big let down of an anticipated big battle only to have the main character battle the two leaders of the opposing army (in real life that would've been awesome and strategically sound, but in movieland, outright boring! There are exceptions of course!). Lastly, the scene where Seigfried was killed was, well.weak! Leading to an anti-climactic conclusion. I commend the film makers if they intended to remain faithfull to the original material, but think they could've directed, framed, choreographed, and scored it better. At least Kristana Loken and Alicia Witt made it less painful to watch!
